The intervention is in charge of both resituating protruding ears that are too far apart from the skull, and reducing their size if they are excessively large, remodeling the hanging lobe or recreating the outer fold if necessary.

This is done to decrease the shyness and embarrassment of having unusually shaped ears.

In children, the surgery can be performed from the age of five or six, when ear growth is almost complete.
