Job Description 1. Job Purpose The main purpose of the Workshop Supervisor’s job is to overlook the activities of the workshop and ensure that all the jobs handled are completed on time, and complies with the quality while maintaining a safe working environment 2. Principal Accountabilities Optimizes the utilization of resources available for the workshop in terms of machinery, manpower, utilities, consumables etc.; for the various jobs being conducted Ensures that any given job is completed within the allocated timeframe and budgeted cost, and reports all deviations with analysis and corrective action Is responsible for job allocation and job flow in the workshop including job scheduling and labor allocation for day to day operations Monitors his team’s quality of work and productivity Inspects and monitors work areas, and examines tools and equipment Provides employee safety trainings to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions in the workshop Reports any cases of mishandling / negligence by the user Orders materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts needed for his workshop Ensures that spare parts and consumables are ordered on time to ensure an uninterrupted flow of work Records observations and findings during diagnostics run and decide on the correct method of repair, as necessary Monitors the condition and maintenance of the workshop to ensure adequate working conditions Opens and closes the job orders and regularly reports progress on each job and quickly communicates delays to the concerned parties Coordinates with the Vessel Master for the planning and scheduling of activities prior to commencement of work and ensures appropriate approvals are given Determines schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skills of personnel Develops his team of Technicians Promotes and disseminates a positive health and safety culture and ensures the health, safety and welfare of self and others Ensures employee health and safety programs and guidelines are developed, regularly maintained, implemented and complied with Identifies any Health, Safety or Environmental risks and recommends and implements measures and solutions to mitigate these risks Completes and implements all required documentation to support the workshop activities including damage reports, repair procedures, quality tests and results, completion reports, additional work reports, etc. Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Site Manager Tracks KPIs for his function and devises plans and initiatives for operational improvements 3. Communications and Working Relationships Supports the Site Manager with all workshop management issues and decisions Works closely with the Supply Chain Department to ensure that the required spare parts are available at the workshop Liaises with the Vessel Master, Chief Engineers, Port Engineers for the planning and execution of repairs and maintenance Interacts with and manages direct reports and operational issues on a daily basis Qualifications 4. Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications Bachelor degree in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent Minimum 7 years of experience as a Workshop Supervisor in a similar operations in the marine sector Ability to work well under pressure and to act quickly and decisively Computer literacy, including knowledge of MS office applications and basic software applications. ERP knowledge is a plus Previous experience in the GCC is a plus, especially if the experience was in Saudi Arabia English fluency is required; Arabic language is a plus
