Job Description 1. Job Purpose The main purpose of the Ship Building QA/QC Officer’s job is to manage the shipbuilding project by setting the technical specifications and requirements and ensures that the new vessel is delivered on time and within budget 2. Principal Accountabilities Monitors and controls the ship building process to reach financial and nonfinancial targets Understands the new vessel contract specification and bid conditions in order to guide the ship building project to its successful completion Controls the design of the new vessel process by reviewing drawings, specifications, and discusses and advises Vallianz where necessary Reviews and validates the shipyards evaluation and work scope including: Completion of design, Engineering, Procurement, Test & trials, and Subcontractors Ensures that the shipyard complies with the RVOS’ quality and safety procedures Reviews and validates the material package and ensures that the requested material meets RVOS’ quality and cost objectives Develops an overall ship building strategy and prepares a detailed project schedule to meet the contract delivery terms and conditions Prepares a progress monitoring and cost control programs for the project to meet the contractual performance targets Develops a project specific quality plan to meet specification requirements and to ensure the compliance with the specification and standard ship building practice Inspects the vessel building progress at different milestones (steel bending, block assembly, launching, etc.) and prepares the Inspection Deficiency Report Executes the project in accordance with the approved schedule and budget in close coordination with all departments / agencies within and outside RVOS such as subcontractors, class and other agencies Identifies and negotiates all work claims with the shipbuilder Promotes and disseminates a positive health and safety culture and ensures the health, safety and welfare of self and others Ensures employee health and safety programs and guidelines are developed, regularly maintained, implemented and complied with Identifies any Health, Safety or Environmental risks and recommends and implements measures and solutions to mitigate these risks Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the General Manager Identifies and tracks KPIs for his/her function, and devises plans and initiatives for improvements 3. Communications and Working Relationships Liaises with the Business Development Department and Client (ARAMCO) for design requirements and ship building changes Interacts on regular basis with Fleet & Technical department during the ship building process Interfaces with the Shipbuilding team at the shipyard during inspections and progress monitoring Liaises with the shipbuilding team at Vallianz during all phases of the ship building project Qualifications 4. Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications Degree in marine architecture, engineering science or equivalent Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Marine Architect Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance Demonstrates a successful track record in vessel design and building management Extensive crisis management skills, and ability to work well under pressure and to act quickly and decisively Previous experience in the GCC is a plus, especially if the experience was in Saudi Arabia English fluency is required; Arabic language is a plus 5.
