This role will be responsible for research and develop, test, and evaluate integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including manufacturing processes, human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistic and material flow.
The Role will include:
• Leads / facilitates organization-wide improvement initiatives such as Lean, 6 Sigma and 5S activities by challenging, teaching and supporting plant-wide goals.
• Responsibilities entail analyzing the current situation, developing new concepts, conducting cost-benefit analyses and formalizing new developmental initiatives.
• Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
• Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of finished product.
• Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
• Revise and analyze quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
• Plan and implement productivity improvement initiatives by analyzing current processes, identifying areas for improvement to achieve productivity targets.
• Maintain proper cost awareness by understanding department needs, formulating and monitoring the execution of cost saving strategies to ensure that overall production costs are managed in line with the department budget.
• Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency, using drafting tools and computer.
• Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
• Study operations sequence, material flow, functional statements, organization charts, and project information to determine worker functions and responsibilities.
• Implement methods and procedures for monitoring and minimizing defective or damaged material or parts through strong coordination with the individuals responsible on the shop floor.
• Recommend methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities.
• Advise on alterations to workflow schedules according to established manufacturing sequences and lead times to expedite production operations.
• Assist in the implementation of manufacturing techniques (Lean, 6 Sigma, 5S, Value Stream Mapping; Pull systems, Cellular Manufacturing, SMED, TPM, and Kaizen etc.) to improve workflow, reduce cycle time, and costs.
• Aid in planning work assignments in accordance with worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays.
• Recommend revision to methods of operation, material handling, equipment layout, or other changes to improve efficiencies or improve standards.
• Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards by referring to best applicable practices obtained through extended research to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
• Assist in developing and maintaining performance and production metrics for management review.
Candidates must demonstrate the following;
• Excellent working knowledge of and committed to continuous improvement principles (lean manufacturing, 5S, Standardized Work, etc.
• Prior experience of steel industry and the manufacturing environment in general.
• Experience in operational excellence / consulting will be highly preferred
• Must have a team-oriented mindset and the ability to provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and technicians.
• Must be an effective communicator, and be able to develop & deliver periodic presentations, management briefs, project tracking, status reporting, and draft technical documents.
• Ability to collect data, established facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams and to communicate with senior level executives across the organization.
• Demonstrate a strong sense of accountability - ensures they will do what they say they are going to do.
• Demonstrated excellent communication verbal and written communication skills with ability to successfully interpret and communicate business needs between internal and external groups in a clear, focused and concise manner. Must be able to communicate well with all levels of the organization.
