Career Counselling career councellorCareers counsellor will aim to assist students with the process of making career decisions, by helping them choose a career or educational program.
As a careers adviser the main roles are:
• Assess student’s abilities, interests and achievements
• Work with students to develop skills, such as organization, time management, and employment based skills and etiquette
• Find learning and work opportunities and enable students to develop an appropriate career goals
• Use careers information and resources to develop information for KS3, 4 and 5
• Evaluate students’ abilities and interests through aptitude assessments, interviews, and individual planning
• Prepare, network and identify potential work experience placements with organisations
• Look to ensure participation in or host potential career or university fayres for students at school or outside
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to help students succeed and develop the prerequisite skills for applications and interviews for relevant career and educational pathways
• Guide students to make decisions that suit their potential career options and their circumstances
• Look at available educational, training and work experience options
• Make a plan of action for achieving the career implementation aims of the school in line with SEF/SIP
• Develop working relationships with employers, colleges, universities and training providers
• Keep up to date with occupational, labour market and university entrance information
• Give talks and lead discussions to all stakeholders where appropriate
• Update records and complete all other administration tasks as required
• Complete any other aspects as deemed appropriate by the SLT/BOD
Skills / Attributes Required:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education Science preferably in Psychology, Career Guidance & Counselling
• Minimum of 3 years of Experience in the role.
• Ability to relate to a diverse student population, Calm & Engaging Personality.
• Understanding and use of current educational practices in career counselling
• Ability to organize activities and coordinate groups of people.
